Looking after players is management too.
Training load, niggles, injuries and staged return to play. Utilero helps you spot problems early; the decisions belong to the strength and conditioning (S&C) coach and the medical team.
Load isn’t measured by eye.
After every training session or match, the player rates how hard it was on their phone. The app multiplies the session minutes by that effort rating (RPE) and adds up the day’s load.
How the player logs itAU: arbitrary units. Sample data.
This week’s load against the last month’s.
Minutes times perceived effort, every day. When this week’s load spikes compared with the last month, the S&C coach sees it in time.
The ratio between the two (ACWR) falls into one of four bands: low load, optimal, warning or risk.
Sample player. Bands: below 0.8 low; 0.8 to 1.3 optimal; up to 1.5 warning; above 1.5 risk.
Each player against their own best.
1RM, CMJ jump, Bronco Test, sprint, high-intensity metres and impacts with GPS. Results are logged by date, so each player can be compared with their previous mark.
| Test | March | June | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squat 1RM | 120 kg | 132 kg | +12 kg |
| CMJ jump | 38 cm | 41 cm | +3 cm |
| Bronco Test | 5:42 | 5:21 | −0:21 |
| 30 m sprint | 4.52 s | 4.41 s | −0.11 s |

A niggle doesn’t rule you out.
The player reports in the app where it hurts and how much, on the VAS (visual analogue scale) for pain. The medical team tells a niggle apart from an injury and records area, side, diagnosis, mechanism and days since onset.
The squad’s niggle map and history export to Excel.

Nobody plays on with a concussion.
The return is staged, with no stage skipped. Until there’s medical clearance, the player doesn’t show as available in the team selector.
